“Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come…
What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!'” Mark 13:33–37
Our Advent Day of Prayer and Reflection will consider the Gospel of St. Mark’s teaching and
understanding that Jesus “will come again.” The faithful follower of Jesus waits in vigilance for the
fullness of time when Jesus will return in the Glory of God. Vigilance is the heart of Advent. In a very
real sense, Christians are an Advent people waiting for Jesus to come in word and sacrament, in the fullness
of time, in the assembly of the Church, and in the encounter with the poor. The Advent / Christmas is the
pulse of this vigilance as we long to welcome the Jesus who never rejected us.
