Solemnity of Christ the King

Dear CTK Friends,

This year, November 26 will be the Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

That is some pretty solemn language being applied to the “Good Shepherd.” For many of us, faith in Jesus Christ is nourished by the sacraments of the Church, and the indwelling of God’s Spirit in our souls. In spite of grand liturgical celebrations, we try to think of Jesus as the Good Shepherd, who leads us home to His Father’s house.

As Passionists, we preach the triumph of Jesus’ life as having taken place on the cross of Golgotha, not in an imperial palace.

Perhaps our Blessed Mother can help us to bridge the gap between the humanity of Jesus and the Kingship we hail on this day. From the day that the angel Gabriel announced to her that God had found favor with her, and that humankind would forever call her blessed, Mary knew the humanity of Jesus as only a mother can know her child. At the same time, Mary marveled that the Eternal Son of God would be her son.

This year, as we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, the world is in turmoil. As Christians, let us invoke the Kingship of Christ as we pray for world peace, and voice our concerns to the leaders of our nations.

Finally, as this year draws closer to an end, we shall remember you in the prayers of our Passionist Family with the hope that Christ may truly reign in our hearts and in our families.

May the Passion of Jesus Christ be always in our hearts!
